South Africa City Reviews: George
For many visitors to the Garden Route, George is a great place to go for holiday shopping. However, the city offers much more.
Situated around 400 kilometres from Cape Town next to the picturesque Outeniqua mountains, George offers residents upmarket living in a country-style way. The city has excellent medical facilities as well as fine schools like Outeniqua High School and York High. The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University also has a satellite campus in the area.
The Garden Route Mall, which is situated around 8 kilometres from the town centre, offers movies, restaurants and department as well speciality stores.
A South African property review reveals that the Garden Route is a popular choice for a vacation – Victoria Bay, Herolds Bay, Glentana and Hartenbos are all located in close proximity to George.
While the town itself offers affordable flats and property close to the city centre, potential property buyers in the luxury market could consider a stand in the Kingswood Golf Estate or a designer Oubaai home near Herolds Bay.
Nature lovers can enjoy one of the hiking trails in the vicinity – the Garden Route Dam offers an easy 2,5 kilometre walk while the Doring River Wilderness Trail offers an average to difficult walk over 15 kilometres. Also make sure to visit Knysna with the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe steam train.
